Challenges in adoption of water‐saving practices: Perspective from drip irrigation adoption in Kenya

Abstract Climate change continues to affect the availability and quantity of water needed for food production globally. Due this, authorities have increasingly advocated adoption water‐saving practices technologies such as drip irrigation systems increase well efficiently conserve dwindling resources. Such promise efficiency but pose challenges, especially farmers they transition from either rainfed agriculture or other less efficient technologies. This paper investigated challenges associated with a focus on Kenyan context. We employ insights sociotechnical approach that take into account technology elements infrastructures, rationale meaning, organizational modes, social interactions, time space in relation farmers’ capabilities transition. The elucidates new policy should smallholder require toward consequently improving their yields. Relevant recently published scholarly articles grey literature, formed database were reviewed qualitatively analyzed. To complement these, eight key informants consulted. Insights gathered are relevant practitioners within field method is potentially useful analysis agricultural systems.
